My Bike Radar Traffic

Beskrivning

See how many vehicles passed you in a ride. Plus upload your .FIT file after the ride to see exactly where each car passed you. The latest version doesn't require internet access. I am hoping to add an automatic sync feature at some point in the future, but for now you must manually upload your ride to mybiketraffic.com if you want to see the locations and speed data for where cars passed you.

Nyheter

2.1.0 - A few bug fixes, plus ability to choose up to 4 fields to display - Total vehicle count, Lap vehicle count (for on-the-bike assessments of how busy a particular road is), Relative approach speed, and Absolute approach speed. The speeds are displayed in the units that your device is set to ... but NOT if you change while the device is on. You have to power off and back on if you change units to see the speed in the new units (metric vs statute)</p>

Brilliant addition to the Varia Radar experience. A must-have install for all my Garmin units.

Version 2 This App just keeps getting better. It is the one app I use all the time as a road/commuter cyclist. Having data now included in Garmin Connect is really useful. However, the Mybiketraffic.com web site gives you even more data to look at.

Great job so far. Is it possible to make one datafield of approach speed? Now the numbers are verry small because it’s combined with vehiclecount. It would be so cool if we would have a datafield of the vehiclespeed. It’s just a calculation of riderspeed + approachspeed. Maybe i think to simple -:). Greeting from the Netherlands

This new version allows you to do that, but you have to go into Settings for the IQ app in Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile, and select the Approach Speed as the only field visible. It will still count all the cars and record that information for post ride analysis even if the only item showing is approach speed.

Great app for the Edge. I use my Varia radar daily and I being a data "geek" I love that I can see the cars that pass me and the speed data. It helps me plan routes or rides depending on traffic flows are certain times of the day. If you have ever wanted to know more about your radar data this is absolutely the app to have. I have to give credit to GPLama and his video for pointing me to this app. If you want some more information on the app check out his review on Youtube.

Brilliant idea! Speed of vehicles reported seems off. Being passed by cars going 60+ mph but map shows them way slower... If this could show approaching speed of vehicles I'd part with good money for it! Please continue to develop this....

Thanks for the review and feedback. One note about the approach speeds - the speed labeled "radar speed" is a relative speed to your speed, so the raw speed of the vehicle would be the rider speed added to the radar speed. Both of my Varia radars are older ones, but they definitely seem to report speeds that are higher than what I perceive as the passing speeds (the opposite of what you are seeing). So I wonder if there is some quality control with the accuracy of each Varia about the speeds it is measuring. Some devices tend to be fast, some devices tend to be slow. I may eventually put a survey on the mybiketraffic website to see how many users perceive the reported speeds as too slow, too fast, or just right. There's not much I can do on the website itself but report the speed that the radar is measuring unless I wanted to add a "calibration" feature that would automatically add/subtract from the reported speeds a calibration value based on each individual user. One way to do that would be to have a user stand next to a professional radar with their varia and compare the difference between the professional radar and the varia radar. The next version of the app which will show you the vehicle speeds would help enable this calibration process.

Works great on my Edge 530 to show total count, and uploads nicely to Garmin connect to show vehicle count over time or distance, but when I try to import the .fit file to the developers site to see where on the map I encountered cars, I get an error saying that the .fit file doesn't contain any radar data. I emailed the developer and awaiting a reply.

Here's the reply I sent to you (but Garmin somehow had the wrong email address associated with your account, so I got a very interesting reply from a different Garmin user who had never heard of my app and had asked a question about a different app) - In any case, I think you should email me directly at [email protected] instead of using the Contact Developer link. Can you send me the ride file so I can see what might be causing the problem? Again, send it directly to me at [email protected], Brian

When i import the garminfile this message (the following errors occurred: 4972388152.zip did not have any radar info. ) show up. I have been out twice now and i get the same message. Maybe i miss some information or did it not work with a ipad. I have all the updates and the datafield seems to worg on my edge 1030 /Kent

A few notes - you have to make sure to add the Connect IQ Vehicle Count data field to one of your data screens. It isn't enough to just install the app, you also have to add the data field on one of the screens. This is what triggers the recording process. Also, I'm not sure if it's a typo or not, but you have to upload a FIT file ... not a ZIP file. Are you selecting it from the Activities folder on your Garmin? I'm working on getting it setup where it will auto-sync from your Garmin Connect account so that it will automatically import onto the mybiketraffic website without the extra steps. Click the Contact Developer link under additional information if you still can't get it to work, and I'd be happy to help find out what's wrong. Thanks!

Have had my Varia for a while now and have often wondered what the stats were...now I don't have to wonder. It's great. I did notice that my Car count on my actual 830 device did not reset to 0 when I started a new ride (a day later) so not sure if that's something I missed to do. However, the ride #s seem correct despite what shows up on Garmin Connect

Thanks for the review and the note. I'm working on fixing the reset process as part of the next version of the app, which will have a few extra display settings as well. In the meantime, if you completely power off the Garmin or connect it to a computer and have it switch over to data mode, it should reset the count on the next ride. It's when you put the Garmin to sleep after saving a ride, but don't power it all the way off or connect it to a computer that the count doesn't get reset. Also, that's only a display glitch on the Garmin, it will show the correct count once you upload it to the mybiketraffic website.

Fantastic app, such an awesome idea and implementation. I wish I had this to give to the prosecutor after I got hit from behind. One thing I noticed is that if I change bike profiles in the middle of the ride, the count resets, I assume that is a limitation of it being a data field?

This is a fantastic app if you have both a Garmin device that can use it and a Garmin Varia Radar. This opens up a lot of possibilities as to keeping records of when and if a vehicle approached a cyclist in a dangerous manner. This should be IQ App of the year.

Count can be off due to how the software counts a contact. Contacts fading in an out can push the count up because the count is made on initial detection, so if the target fades and is then re-acquired closer, it is counted again. It would be better if targets were counted only when at a certain range and not initial detection. Otherwise the software does what it promises, it appends radar data to your fit file which can be view in MyBikeTraffic.com interface (sadly not on the connect interface, so you have to mentally note how many passes you had unless you plan to upload the data).

Svar från utvecklaren
den 18 juni 2019, MyBikeRadarTraffic

Excellent points. I am still tweaking the counting algorithm. I like your suggestion of counting it at the very end when a car disappears off the radar (but only if it's within certain distance). Part of the reason for counting at the beginning is so that you'd see the count increase at the time the beep alerts you that a car is approaching. Otherwise, it might look like a car wasn't counted. One option would be to switch to an app display that shows two numbers instead of one number - how many cars approached you (first number) followed by how many cars actually passed you (second number).

Det finns tyvärr ingen statistik tillgänglig ännu.
