The altimeter reading is accurate enough but the distance is a long way off. On a hike of approximately 13.1/13.2 km, it showed 21.69km. This is the third long hike I’ve done over the last few weeks. It has been hugely inaccurate. It’s a shame as the data fields look good on the watch. It’s inaccurate with hiking poles and also without. To be fair I’m not sure is it a problem with the watch or the app but the app is showing the readings. My phone and ViewRanger are far more accurate in comparison.
Please make sure you have not enabled auto start/stop mode (=auto pause). Otherwise it can happen that distance is not accurate if you often switch to auto stopp and back.
I really like it because it added tremendous value to my vívoactive 3. I just learned how to install apps. Prior, I thought I had to buy a higher end watch like a fenix type or something similar. I'm probably still going to get a higher end watch but at least with an app like this, I know that I can add a lot of value to less expensive watch. I actually found that it had more information than I needed so the watch keeps me busy when I rest. I'm definitely going to pay for this as soon as I figure out how.
The developer was responsive with feedback and very courteous. App performs as advertised.
This app is great, and beats the native Garmin app hands down. I really like the ability to custom configure the main screen with 7 different data fields. When I first purchased the app a few weeks ago there was no %grade field. I contacted the developer, and he added it! I'm using the app for hikes and walks. The display is clean and well organized. And it gives me all the data I need on one screen. The other screens are useful too. It even includes an elevation graph and a bread crumbs map. Two possible improvements: let me access other watch functions while this is running (such as music playback), and is it possible to pass the %grade data back to Connect?
Accessing other watch functions during running of the Hiking App is already possible on devices where Garmin allows it. Please once try to press the START button for a long time.
Adding a grade chart is a very good idea. I will do this in one of my next releases.
Great app, bought a premium version long time ago and transferred the license to a new device without any problems
Hi, the application is great and the new field 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 is great to read.
I wouldn't say it's a terrible app but the screen wouldn't budge from their message asking for donations. Super frustrating while out.
Works great now. Thanks a lot for the quick support
Doesn't work on my Garmin Forerunner 235, tried all their modes, distance shoes 0.00. same for other fields. Other hiking apps works.
First investigations show that there is a problem with the app settings when we put a new version to the App Store. If you have problems, please delete the app, synchronize, once reboot the device and install it again.
Please carefully check the app settings whether they contain invalid values. We will further investigate how to solve this issue in a more convenient way.
Tried multiple times but as soon as you stop moving the app stops tracking and ends your activity
I am very sorry for that. It would be very helpful if you could send me more information about which Garmin device you are using and which firmware you have installed by sending me a mail.
Во время тренировки показывает неадекватные показания набора высоты и спуска (хорошо что по итогам в тренировку правильно записалось). Когда запущено это приложение то не работает Body Battery.
Sorry for writing here, bau I sent an email to [email protected] on 13th Dec 2018 and I didn't get any answer.
Here is the mail content
I'm an hiker and, after the Garmin Fenix 5, I have purchased your complete professional app, including Hiking App Professional.
It works well, but the "VSPD 10s" value is unrealible, even if Fenix 5 has the barometer (I know the limitations due to the GPS altitude).
The VSPD 10s changes very quickly and it never gives zero value when I'm stopped.
Regarding the HikingDF7 1 and HikingDF7 2 data fields, will I be notified when they will be available?
The HikingDF7 data fields are already available since quite a while. The stability of VSPD will be improved in the next version.
I am using Hiking and Mountainbike APP since quite a while. What I miss is the chance to calibrate the hight via GPS, while I am aktive. Furthermore, like in the Mountainbike APP, the chance to collor the HR within the Hiking-APP.
That would help to receive 5 Stars.
On premium version...
1. Unable to remove the walk option... I need only straight go to Hiking, no need Walk option.
2. In vivoactive 4, after started a hiking session, no way to quit the app with Discard & Exit, only Save & Exit works fine.
Only shows the activity as "Hiking", not walking, which is what I mainly do, it will therefore show under "other activities". There should be a switch in settings so I don't have to manually edit each activity.
Thank you very much for the bug report. This problem only occurs if the FREE version is active. I will fix this there in the next verison.
While hiking the app informed me that simultaneously my walking pace was faster than three miles a minute while my speed was slower than three miles a minute. There was no information I could not get in ordinary data fields. I deleted it.
I’ve been using the RH-Sports Cycling, MTB, Hiking and Skiing apps on my Garmin watch for years. They are highly customizable and easy to use. I’m a big fan.
Hello, after 3h of hiking I wanted to save and exit, vivoactive 3 music bugged, the app stopped, the watch needed to reboot in order to have all the iQ apps working, so need some work, but good app
I used this app for the first time today. Strava said the hike was 3.31mi and this app reported 2.82 when it finally transferred to my phone. Who's right?
It's not easy to customize.
I installed it for the map. But it shows only a portion of your hike. Do it's entirely useless for a loop.
If you are in the map view you can press the start button to enter the Zoom view. There you can select out of several zoom options to see the whole map.
Burns up your battery like crazy. And every few minutes it zaps your wrist to remind you that you have the free version. It’s incredibly annoying. And it doesn’t do anything that the built in hiking app does. Not for me.
A good development costs several hundred hours of work. As clearly documented, the Free version reminds to upgrade regularly. The Pemium version is not doing that anymore and also offers power modes to save battery.
Thanks for the app! Bought the whole kit and very satisfied! Please: 1) Add HRV everywhere, 2) Implement everywhere choosing the type of occupation from the watch menu! 3) Remember the choice of the last selected type of occupation! Andrew! 4) Make a field for this application! With all respect, Andrew!
I like this very much. However, it seems to have changed some functioning on its own. I am using it on fenix 5 Sapphire, paid version, deleted and reinstalled today. The new behavior appeared maybe a week ago, and persists after my update of today. What I don't like is that I now have to press more buttons than I used to. Here's what happens when I want to do a hike
A) Starting the hike:
1. Press the start/stop button to show apps, with favorites first.
2. Hiking app is first item in my favorites so I press start/stop again. It quickly shows the premium screen and then shows the list of activities, with Hiking shown first.
3. I press start/stop again. It looks for GPS and then when ready (about 20-30 secs often) it shows the main screen with various fields.
4. I press start/stop again to start it. It pulls up a menu of items that has Start Session as first item, then below it, Navigation, then below it Exit App.
5. I press start/stop again to start the session and it starts!
But that was 5 presses to get at what was my first favorite, and when I already had hiking as my default activity. That seems like too much. And I think it used to be fewer presses. I'm pretty sure press #4 wasn't required before.
B) Stopping the hike:
1. Press start/stop. It brings up menus with Pause Session as first item, then Navigation below it, then Save and Exit below it.
2. Press down once.
3. Press down again to be at Save and Exit.
4. Press start/stop to save and exit. Now it shows the apps list with favorites first, and the Hiking app therefore first.
5. Press back to get to the watch again.
So that's 5 presses. I'm pretty sure I didn't used to need to do both steps 2 and 3, so there is at least 1 more press before.
Is there any way I can change settings so that I don't have so many presses?
Thank you very much for your feedback. I significantly improved that in the last released version.
