Great widget on Garmin Venu. Would event be better if working without Garmin connect app being active to have it functioning. WiFi should be enough.

Theoretically, that is possible, but Garmin had made it quite a hassle to use wifi for a simple web request, such as getting a quote. The reason is that wifi really drains your battery, so it is only switched on temporarily when needed, and switched off after you're done. Making a connection can take quite some time. Once the connection is made, transfer is much faster than using the Connect App, so it only makes sense if you transfer a large amount of data, e.g. an activity.
