There is no way to avoid it. This won't affect the timer, which will display the total elapsed time when you open the widget is again, including the period in which the widget wasn't in the foreground. This is one of the reasons why we decided not to add functions such as 'lap' etc. To understand the problem, consider what would happen if the widget closes just before the moment you wanted to add a lap.</p>

If you do not hit back after starting your timer and the screen times out the app will not reflect any timer has started. Extremely frustrating.

It only stays on for a limited time and then have to keep reopening the app. Not convenient when using it to time long gym sessions. Please update.

Hi! Thanks for your review. If you read the app description, you'll learn that happens to ALL widgets and it is IMPOSSIBLE to program a widget which will disrespect this rule. This is how GARMIN designed widgets to work. For your use case, I indeed recommend the stock stopwatch. Cheers

Was hoping it would combine a stopwatch and countdown timer in one but sadly no. Also the screen goes dark while the timer is running resetting the screen so you have to go looking for the app again to see how much time has passed.

Diese App ist die beste Stoppuhr. Sie zählt sogar im Hintergrund und funktioniert auf meinem Edge 830 perfekt.

Love this widget. Happy that it is working again. It stopped working as intended for a while. It required me to power off my watch for it to work properly again. Wish I have known it was just such a simple fix.

Agree with Kyles comments. I feel would be better if there was an option to not loose the stop watch screen. Would be really good if you could record a run, and use the stopwatch during with it not affecting anything. I used to have to start a run, and time individual lap times on a separate casio watch when training on athletic track. Still a nice addition to have on the watch.

I wanted a stopwatch on my FR235. I picked this one, and the Stopwatch app by Garmin (https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/fc9c1ad4-9377-45f9-b53d-ed61f480c3ff) This one is a widget, the other is an app. By being a widget, it means it is more quickly accessible. You get right to it with the up/down arrow keys (FR235). You can use Garmin Express to reorder screens, so it’s right where to want it. I left it at the end, so I could up arrow to it right away. It has one slight (IMHO) drawback, in that my FR235 returns to the home screen after 60 seconds. This is mentioned in several reviews, and the developer states that this is due to the way Garmin handles all widgets, even their own. But fear not, the stopwatch is still running, you just have to page back to it, and it is still running. That’s another reason I left it at the end, so it’s one button (up) away. As an FYI, the app I mentioned above does not time out, and remains on screen until you change the screen. But you can’t change screen until you stop it.

App returns to main screen after 2 minutes. Yes, it's the way garmin has it programmed. This is out of the devs hands, I get it... then perhaps a stopwatch is not a good app to have until this giant issue is resolved or a solution for this to not happen... where I need to use the timer for longer than 2 minutes ... is figured out. Because the entire purpose of a stopwatch is to stop the timer when I need to... not have to flip through several menus to get back to the app now running in the background... in order to stop the stopwatch... just sayin.

Thanks for your review and your thoughts. We consider that there may be different purposes for a stopwatch. More specifically, we consider it could be useful to have a widget that runs a stopwatch in the background while you are doing other things with your watch (e.g. the stopwatch can measure the time since you left home, while you record multiple activities, etc). Just sayin'. Cheers!

Love it but I would like that the timer don't go to sleep after 30 seconds
