This simple data field can be added to any of the sports apps (see "Customizing the Data Screens" page in your device's user guide). It displays a six figure Ordnance Survey GB Grid Reference followed by 4 figure Eastings and Northings displays which include the compass direction of travel. It is intended to be used for old-school hiking with paper maps when you want to get a rough indication of your current location and direction of travel.</p>

Love the premise but doesn't seem to be working. Added it as a data field to the Garmin walk app but it comes up with an empty box. Using a vivoactive 4s for reference.

Superb addition to my Forerunner 735XT. I didn't initially realise the OS Grid needs to be added as a data's field to an activity screen but that's genius....thanks

Sorry you're having trouble with this. In what way doesn't it work for you? Have you been able to add the data field to an activity screen and if so, what do you see on the display? Please use the Contact Developer link if you'd like help troubleshooting this. If you need a stand-alone grid reference rather than a data-field then you might find the widget more useful.

Same situation as Tom Barkas on July 14 - great widget but it stopped working a couple of weeks ago unfortunately. I have a Forerunner 235 on software version 8.00 (add1891). Hope you can help - thanks!

Hi Oz Thanks for the info... Looks like the last update exceeded the memory requirements for the FR235. I rejigged the code and it should be running again now. Sorry for the inconvenience. (If you find this data field useful please consider donating to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) through my fundraising page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MarkRP)

Hi Alex The OS Grid Reference data field can't display MGRS - it's only for UK Grid References. I've got a widget that does do MGRS here: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/07b03259-24c8-4828-b949-2e48ef04a2c5 But if you need a data field that to use in activities then someone else has developed a MGRS data field here: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/98a909f6-c8cb-4d30-96f7-1a85151b1d3d Hope that helps Cheers Mark

I'm also having the old fix location unknown problem and it's only started recently. Haven't been able to fix it. Was great until now!

Hi Amanda Sorry to hear that. The app is displaying the GPS status as reported by the watch's operating system, so to fix this we need to understand why the watch is not refreshing the location more frequently. As I mentioned below this can be caused by using a power-saving mode like UltraTrac which deliberately takes a long time between GPS refreshes, or (less likely) it can be because the watch hasn't managed to get a good fix because it can't get a clear view of the sky. It's worth checking your GPS settings and if that doesn't help then feel free to use the "Contact Developer" link to get in touch directly. If you do resolve the problem by changing your settings please consider updating your review to let other people know what you changed. Best regards, Mark

Installed the app but it cycles through "GPS:Oldfix" and then the grid references, is there a patch which removes "GPS:Oldfix"?

The "Oldfix" message means that the device's operating system has described the GPS signal quality as "QUALITY_LAST_KNOWN:- The Location is based on the last known GPS fix". Garmin don't say what this means in terms of metres accuracy but the positional accuracy should be treated with caution... don't navigate along a cliff edge in a whiteout using only your device!! You can usually get rid of this message by turning on an activity and leaving the device with a clear view of the sky until it has calculated a good position. This can take some time if you've significantly changed location since your last good GPS position, or haven't used the device for a while. If that doesn't work try checking your GPS settings. Some GPS power saving modes on the device (like UltraTrac) might cause the OS to report this. If this is the case then you may wish to change the display time settings for this data field (in the phone app) so that the GridRef stays on screen for longer and the message appears for relatively less time. I hope this helps. Mark

Hi Darren, you can change the grid reference precision on the settings screen in the Garmin Connect mobile phone app. To do that, go to the menu in the Garmin Connect mobile app, click on Garmin Devices, select your device, click on Connect IQ Apps, click Data Fields, select the Grid Reference data field and then click Settings. From the next screen you'll be able to select the precision. I hope that helps (and feel free to click "Contact Developer" on the app details screen if it's not working for you). Best regards, Mark.

Afternoon, I have bought a fenix 5 and I'm after putting the grid coordinates on my watch, can I have a step by step guide on how to add the data fields please or be pointed in the direction of a manual to explain it? Once done I will upgrade to great as I'm sure it is!

Hi, you've downloaded the Grid Ref. data field which is designed to be added to one of the screens in the built in apps. This allows you to get a grid reference while you're recording an activity - for example during a Run or Walk. For example, to add the data field on my Fenix 3 I have to start an activity - e. g. "Run" , then press the menu button, go to Settings - Current App - Data Screens and I can add the Grid Ref field from the "ConnectIQ" section. I hope that works for you, if you'd prefer to check a Grid Ref when not executing one of the built-in activity apps then you might want to try the Grid Ref widget instead - see: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/07b03259-24c8-4828-b949-2e48ef04a2c5 This allows you to quickly check the grid ref when you're cycling through the widgets (alongside the weather, music controls etc.).

I like to have Lat/Long and UK grid on the same face so after updating to a Fenix 5, this data field was a must. I contacted Mark and he updated the field straight away. Thanks again... Steve.
