I did use this APP with my Edge 1030 and the an Garmin RTL 510.
When will you make it compatible to the Edge 830/530 ?
And can you please invert the screen on day time to black text on white background?
This is just a terrible app. Trek should be ashamed of it. I bought a Bontrager 1030 and a varia radar. The app does not control the varia. The app has 4 settings. Independent, night mode, day mode and off. The only mode that works is off. Once you turn it off you cannot turn it back on. Also the app disconnected tonight on a TT race on a highway 12 times in 34 minutes and 48 seconds. Makes a safety item completely unsafe and pointless. Also there have been nothing but problems with the reviews for this app and it has not been updated in a year? Trek and garmin pull your heads out of your buts and at least give us the garmin app so we can safely use our radars!!!!
To make it worse there is another app that you can add to a normal 1030 that allows you to control it but it is not available for a Bontrager 1030. What garbage!
Tail Light Field
Really wanted to love this, but the lights are continually in a state of connected/disconnected/searching mode. This triggers very annoying alarm beeps (yes that can be turned off, but I like the alerts for my maps. Also the lights just intermittently work, which is not the purpose of having lights.
And aside from being distracting it sucks the battery life of both my Garmin Edge 1000 and the lights. I finally disconnected all of this and now just manually turn the lights on and off. Seriously - it really isn't difficult to push the button.
And I am now stress free, my lights last longer and I just don't need to think about them. Don’t bother with this it just doesn’t work well and is certainly not worth the energy spent trying to make it work.
Good idea, bad experience
This is pretty weird. I’ve got an ionRT and a FlareRT the Flare works pretty much as you’d expect but the individual controls for the Ion seem to affect the Flare instead. On Auto or “high vis” pre-sets, it seems to control both fairly sensibly, just trying to set the front one to a custom setting doesn’t work. And I don’t know why using “timer start” as the turn on command doesn’t then turn off the lights when you stop the timer. You always have to turn the garmin (I’ve got a 1000) off to turn the lights off. You can do that while paused and it does work but I’d have thought just hitting stop would do it.
I'm very disappointed in this app. I selected these lights in part so they could be controlled by the Garmin, but the app is aweful. There is no documentation, and the tiny pictures on the app info page are too small to see, and when I save them and increase the size the fonts are not readable. The app itself doesn't work right. When I use the buttons to set the headlight, it turns on the taillight, and so on. I thought activating the lights when I start riding would be useful, but they don't turn off when I stop riding. I'll be returning the lights. :-(
Downloaded the app for my Garmin 1030 using pro ion 1300 and 2 rt flares. Also I have the Bontrager remote control, but was very confusing trying to control the lights with the app and the remote control so in the end I uninstalled the app and just use the remote which is a lot simpler and I recommend anyone to use the remote controller over this app for simplicity.. Without the remote I expect the app would be ok but too complicated trying to use both.
Setup instructions for Ion Pro Rt 1300 light and Edge 1000 are almost non-existant. The actual app is glitchy. It shows a high and low button but when I select high it immediately jumps to low.
the latest headlights Ion 200 RT and Ion Pro RT are not fully supported.
The flash mode selection is not effective, selecting it brings no change. The only way to activate the flash mode is to be set to "Auto" mode.
I hope this will be quickly fixed.
Fantàstic App. The battery of my flare RT is longer that with Garmin App
It works but for me should be one more button to customize the light mode (3 not 2). For me especially for front light (to have direct access to high, low or flash mode). Bontrager can you add it with next update?
Got my Edge 1030 paired my Bontrager RT LIGHTS to the Edge and also installed the
app all works seamlessly.
Set lights to come on in Day flash Mode when I press the Timer to start my Ride.
This App is a great idea and when the developer gets it and the user instructions right I’m sure it will be wonderful.
I recently purchased the new top of the line Bontrager Ion 1300 and FlareRT combo light system. I have installed the Bontrager light control App on my Garmin Edge 1030 and paired it with the lights. The user instructions for the app are completely inadequate, if not nonexistent. There is nothing useful in the combo light packaging.
The numbered instructions on the Garmin connect IQ store (this site) are impossible to understand completely without more explanation and without screen shots. The 5 tiny images available at the bottom of the App info area are so small that they cannot be read, or even enlarged to help. I searched the web and the Trek/Bontrager site and cannot find a user guide or useful video.
There appear to be 5 available screens showing on those tiny screen shots on the App download page. But I have only been able to find 2 when I have the App up on my Garmin 1030. And it is very difficult to push the button that gets me to the second page.
My Trek dealer did not know how to expertly use the app and was as befuddled as I am.
The little back button on the options screen is almost impossible to see. I somehow got stuck on that screen and it took me forever to figure out how to go back to the main page. The back button needs to be bigger.
The Off buttons to manually turn off the lights on the main screen do not consistently work. There must be a bug. I want to be able to reliably turn off the lights from the App when I make a rest stop in the middle of a ride. As it is, the lights just stay on unless those stop buttons on the App screen happen to work that day. If the off buttons are frozen, you have to manually turn off the lights themselves and on again when you return to your ride.
My lights turn on when I plug in my Garmin 1030 in to charge it. The Garmin for some reason turns itself on automatically sometimes when I plug it into my
It works correctly in Edge 820. Remember to follow all instructions, including adding new sensor step
En garmin 820, con 10.0 no funciona
In theory it’s a good idea. Having control of the lights from the unit is very handy but when I set my lights to come on upon my Garmin timer starting this app stops them from doing so. Is there any way to allow my lights to come on at start up whilst retaining control via the app. It doesn’t appear so.
Downloaded this app to my Garmin 820 but don't seems to see the app on the unit when i try to search for it. I do however see it on my computer when i try to manage apps. I'll give my final rating once i get around actually using them. Any idea to figure it out?

No funciona bien la aplicación con la version 10.0.0.0. Se queda colgada creando la red.
With 820 version 10.00 with flare rt 2018 only: it works the first time I install the field in a screen. But if I change the light mode from auto to individual or vice versa in Garmin light network settings, the bontrager field screen does not show anymore: either it says 'identifying lights' or 'network forming' forever (when in fact the light is already identified and the network formed according to the Garmin device) or a small circle with the letters IQ appears. But the field buttons do not appear anymore. I must re-install the field in order to get (only sometimes) its buttons. Thanks.
Update: it seems as the data field losses the connection with the light (but the Garmin device does not! --because I am still able to control the light using Garmin controls)
Lo mismo con la última actualización no funciona con carmín edgen 820 arreglen lo porfa
con la ultima actualizacion (version 10.0) del Garmin 820 edge, no funciona la aplicacion.

The app seems to be running perfectly with my ion 200 RT and my flare RT. The only reason for four stars instead of five is that it's a bit slow to form it's network each time and the app is not all that intuitive to get up and running. Be sure to swipe down to get more options from the widget.
How many lights can it control at one time? Winter's coming on and I might like to add the ion pro RT. 'Doesn't look like there's room in the app screen for a third column.
As others have said, this is a great idea but a bit disappointing. My edge 1030 has so much spare space but I can only set 2 modes. Why not allow to set all 5 modes (off, day flash, all day flash, night flash, high, low). Yes I know know auto is controlled by Garmin, but as far as I can tell that sets day flash in bright conditions and night flash in dark conditions. We need to be able to set all the other modes. There is plenty of room
So much potential but doesn't quite make it.
The auto mode for the light is terrible as others have mentioned. Going to full brightness when traveling under trees burns the battery too quickly and makes the light useless for anything but the shortest rides.
While it's nice the light turns on when my Garmin starts recording the ride, it doesn't automatically turn off the lights when I am paused for a lengthy period. There isn't a button to turn off the lights and have them auto-start when I move again.
Lots of common sense features just not there.
The auto mode is controlled by Garmin in the light network mode. The light control app does not have the ability to control auto, only take the lights out of auto and put them into a specific mode.
The 'Light Beam Activated' feature can be accessed also under the Network Mode and is controlled by Garmin. Changing that to 'Timer Start' should do what you are asking.
I can help relay your feedback to Garmin if you would like.
I downloaded Bontranger Light Control to my Garmin Edge 1000. I was hoping to be able to control the modes of the Ion 800 RT. The only modes in the app are “Auto, Hight, Low, Off”. Using “Auto” during the day has a problem in that if there is any shade the light stops flashing and stays on (not sure if it is in “High” or “Low” mode). The battery does not last very long using this approach. I found that if one uses the tool box icon on the Edge 1000 then selects “Sensors” then “Lights” then “Network Options” then “Light Mode” then select “Individual”. Go back to the “Network Options” screen and select “Headlight” then “Light Mode”. I then select “Day Flash” which increases the battery life. I have removed the Light Control app as I do not find it very useful to allow me to have enough charge for a multi-hour ride.
In the upper right corner of the light control you will see a button that will take you to the settings menu. In here, you can change the override buttons (the two middle buttons) so that they reflect the modes you want to be able to go to.
Auto is controlled by Garmin, and the app only has the ability to take the lights out of auto and set them to a specific mode.
