Simply doesn’t work
12 settembre 2019, Mark.R.P
Sorry you're having trouble with this. In what way doesn't it work for you? Have you been able to add the data field to an activity screen and if so, what do you see on the display? Please use the Contact Developer link if you'd like help troubleshooting this. If you need a stand-alone grid reference rather than a data-field then you might find the widget more useful.

Working perfectly now - excellent widget

Thanks Oz... and thanks a million for giving to MSF. I know a generous donation like that makes a big difference to the charity... much appreciated!!

Same situation as Tom Barkas on July 14 - great widget but it stopped working a couple of weeks ago unfortunately. I have a Forerunner 235 on software version 8.00 (add1891). Hope you can help - thanks!
18 luglio 2019, Mark.R.P
Thanks for the info... Looks like the last update exceeded the memory requirements for the FR235. I rejigged the code and it should be running again now. Sorry for the inconvenience. (If you find this data field useful please consider donating to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) through my fundraising page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MarkRP)

Had this working as Field 4 and I’d have given it 5 stars, but now only shows IQ!. Tried to contact developer, but it gives an Error message each time
17 luglio 2019, Mark.R.P
Hi Tom, I'm investigating... Any chance you could tell me which device and software version you're using please? Hopefully you can get through to me via the "Contact developer" link on the datafield info page. If not please update your review. Thanks.

Hi Paul, sorry for the slow response. I've just released a new version of the widget with support for the 945. Hope that helps. Regards, Mark

This is a great app but needs to work with the Garmin 945.

Hi mate can you do a step by step guide to enable mgrs
21 gennaio 2019, Mark.R.P
The OS Grid Reference data field can't display MGRS - it's only for UK Grid References.
I've got a widget that does do MGRS here: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/07b03259-24c8-4828-b949-2e48ef04a2c5
But if you need a data field that to use in activities then someone else has developed a MGRS data field here:
Hope that helps

I'm also having the old fix location unknown problem and it's only started recently. Haven't been able to fix it. Was great until now!
3 gennaio 2019, Mark.R.P
Hi Amanda Sorry to hear that. The app is displaying the GPS status as reported by the watch's operating system, so to fix this we need to understand why the watch is not refreshing the location more frequently. As I mentioned below this can be caused by using a power-saving mode like UltraTrac which deliberately takes a long time between GPS refreshes, or (less likely) it can be because the watch hasn't managed to get a good fix because it can't get a clear view of the sky. It's worth checking your GPS settings and if that doesn't help then feel free to use the "Contact Developer" link to get in touch directly. If you do resolve the problem by changing your settings please consider updating your review to let other people know what you changed. Best regards, Mark

Installed the app but it cycles through "GPS:Oldfix" and then the grid references, is there a patch which removes "GPS:Oldfix"?
28 novembre 2018, Mark.R.P
The "Oldfix" message means that the device's operating system has described the GPS signal quality as "QUALITY_LAST_KNOWN:- The Location is based on the last known GPS fix". Garmin don't say what this means in terms of metres accuracy but the positional accuracy should be treated with caution... don't navigate along a cliff edge in a whiteout using only your device!!
You can usually get rid of this message by turning on an activity and leaving the device with a clear view of the sky until it has calculated a good position. This can take some time if you've significantly changed location since your last good GPS position, or haven't used the device for a while.
If that doesn't work try checking your GPS settings. Some GPS power saving modes on the device (like UltraTrac) might cause the OS to report this. If this is the case then you may wish to change the display time settings for this data field (in the phone app) so that the GridRef stays on screen for longer and the message appears for relatively less time. I hope this helps.

Hi great addition to the watch, how do I change from a 6 fig grid to and 8 fig? Many thanks
15 novembre 2018, Mark.R.P
Hi Darren, you can change the grid reference precision on the settings screen in the Garmin Connect mobile phone app. To do that, go to the menu in the Garmin Connect mobile app, click on Garmin Devices, select your device, click on Connect IQ Apps, click Data Fields, select the Grid Reference data field and then click Settings. From the next screen you'll be able to select the precision. I hope that helps (and feel free to click "Contact Developer" on the app details screen if it's not working for you). Best regards, Mark.

Afternoon, I have bought a fenix 5 and I'm after putting the grid coordinates on my watch, can I have a step by step guide on how to add the data fields please or be pointed in the direction of a manual to explain it? Once done I will upgrade to great as I'm sure it is!

Hi Craig, I can't contact you directly but please take a look at the instructions in the reply to Greg Morales' review a bit further down the page, and if that doesn't work then please drop me a note through the "Contact developer" link.

Hi Oliver take a look at the reply to Greg Morales a couple of reviews down, and if that doesn't work then please drop me a note through the "Contact developer" link.

So I added this app to a data field for doing hikes but it keeps telling me unknown location and GPS: Old fix. I just want an 8 digit grid coordinate can someone help me fix this?
2 ottobre 2017 | Versione V2.3-upd
Ok I just got the fenix 5x and downloaded this mgrs app, now I have no idea how to find it on my watch
3 ottobre 2017, Mark.R.P
Hi, you've downloaded the Grid Ref. data field which is designed to be added to one of the screens in the built in apps. This allows you to get a grid reference while you're recording an activity - for example during a Run or Walk.
For example, to add the data field on my Fenix 3 I have to start an activity - e. g. "Run" , then press the menu button, go to Settings - Current App - Data Screens and I can add the Grid Ref field from the "ConnectIQ" section.
I hope that works for you, if you'd prefer to check a Grid Ref when not executing one of the built-in activity apps then you might want to try the Grid Ref widget instead - see:
This allows you to quickly check the grid ref when you're cycling through the widgets (alongside the weather, music controls etc.).

Fantastic addition. Thanks

How do I use it for the viroactive hr as having trouble
16 agosto 2017, Mark.R.P
Hi, hopefully you got this sorted now but if you're still struggling then send me a message and I'll talk you through how to add a data field to the built in apps.
3 aprile 2017 | Versione V2.3
I like to have Lat/Long and UK grid on the same face so after updating to a Fenix 5, this data field was a must. I contacted Mark and he updated the field straight away. Thanks again... Steve.
7 giugno 2016 | Versione V2.2
Fantastic little data field highly useful in the walk app on the hills in UK to quickly get a location rather than resort to compass and map all the time. Also really helpful discussion with the developer to a couple of questions I had and some guidance.
28 maggio 2016 | Versione V2.2
Fantastic app. Suprisingly useful when checking location or confirming a location. Just been using it to log Trig points in Derbyshire. Fab and works very well every time.
4 marzo 2016 | Versione 2.10
Just updated to the latest version, and even better, with choice of displays - many thanks for the improvement
25 febbraio 2016 | Versione 1.2
Many thanks for providing this - finally my GPS can tell me where I am !! Similar to other review, if I was being picky, then would prefer just a fixed display rather than scrolling, 6 digits more than enough
2 febbraio 2016 | Versione 1.1
Very useful addition to the 920XT. Might be useful to have the option of a fixed display (6 or 8 digit) rather than alternating - but that's being picky! It means the triathlon watch can be a backup nav aid on my hikes (and runs) now.
12 gennaio 2016 | Versione 1.1
Thanks for adding this. it was nice to be able to get a UK grid on the 310XT, really surprised Garmin missed it off the fenix. Essential data if you're lost or need to let mountain rescue know where you are.
28 dicembre 2015 | Versione 1.1
I'm hugely grateful that you've written this. Having an OS grid reference to correlate with a paper map is terribly useful in the UK, when hiking especially. And displaying the last known location if GPS lock is lost (and clearly showing that) is a big improvement on the built-in "Where Am I?" feature which does not show the location at all without GPS lock. (In fact the 920XT is currently pretty poor at explaining whether it has a GPS fix and what quality at all, so your display of that information is handy even without the coordinates.)
(Now as I understand it, if only Garmin would support persistLocation() on the 920XT, we could also have something that actually allows one to save a new waypoint for some location other than where one is already standing! And optionally in OS grid format, using your nice conversions.)
