Running Power Estimator


A running power estimator using pace and gradient based on Manetti et. al. ( The running power is saved to FIT. Note that GPS-calculated elevation may have major distortion and affecting Run Power results. The vertical oscillation is not considers like with the Stryd sensor, only the horizontal power. </p><p></p><p>Example: Running 95 minutes and burning 1400cal. 1400 * 4184 / (90 * 60) gives an average of 1084.7 Watt .</p>

app works great, but data is not exported to Strava, even though Strava now has running power. New Garmin devices using the Garmin Running Power data field do have running power on strava.

Thx! Strava is picky in terms what it accepts. May disguise as Stryd field, but this may collide with Stryd users.

This resides on Strava, which I have no control. As long Strava does not include power for running, the answer is no.

Thx! This a quest of finding the adequate running power data ID such that 3rd parties picks it up. There is little information on ID's and probably I see only reverse engineering a Garmin FIT file with running power data correctly uploaded to 3rd parties, but first I need such a file.

To be honest I spotted it when I first downloaded the app years ago, but was curious whether any other users highlights it or not. Shame on them for not doing that, and shame on me for the test.

100% means what you totally burn during running and 24% is typically what you actually deliver, moving your body.

AVERAGING TIME OF PACE : the time interval the pace is average over. Longer interval more smooth pace and short more respossive, but more unstable due to measurements fluctuating. DISTANCE FOR GRADIENT : The distance the calculate the gradient. gradient = distance / elevation difference

Thx! I do not think that Strava supports power for running and for sure not some other custom field.

Great app and simple way to have run power estimation without other device. After reading the Manetti et. al article an review I wonder if possible to have excel/Google sheet to calculate run power estimations for past workouts? Thanks.

Thx! This should be possible with Excel. You'll need to extract distance, time, (pace or speed,) and elevation into Excel. The changeling part is to find current velocity and gradient to be smooth enough, but still capturing the details. For the gradient you can use Excel linear regression and for velocity a window average over 10-30s. Doing this as post process you can get more accurate velocity and gradient values, since you look ahead, which my data field cannot. Then use Minetti.

Aplikacja super. Mam tylko pytanie odnośnie bardzo dużych różnic w wskazaniach mocy w porównaniu do Garmin Runnig Power. Tam są zdecydowanie większe wskazania mocy. Nie wiem teraz która aplikacja daje rzetelniejszy odczyt..

Great idea. Can you list the defaults in the description on connectiq, I'm not sure if I changed them or not from having it previously installed. Also, possible to have a treadmill mode? Maybe allow user to enter treadmill grade option or default to 1%.

Really great data field. I don’t have a Stryd, but I’ve always wanted to be able to train with power. This seems like a good way to do that without spending hundreds of dollars on power meters. As with some of the other reviews, I would only ask for a couple of extra features: 1) Average Power 2) Some mechanism for setting a target power range 3) The ability to export the power data to partner apps Again, this is an AWESOME data field. I’d high recommend it!

Thx! You should see the power average in GarminConnect and it should also give the average power for each lab.

Still love it. 2 questions: A) if I use a footpod speed/pace data to be averaged come from there, right? B) Is grade calculated by the data field from elevation change and distance change or does the data field directly take the grade calculated by the watch?

Thx! 1) I assume reading pace comes from the best source. 2) Gradient is always calculated elevation / distance. I have not investigate if and how good evtl build-in gradient is .
