Name: Blueline - Ice hockey shifts and recovery
Author: ThijsGer

Blueline sees for itself when you are on the ice and when you are on the bench. Start it at the puck drop and play: your wrist movement and skating rhythm, together with your heart rate, tell it when a shift starts and when you sit down. A face-off or a whistle is not mistaken for a line change — if play resumes before a real bench rest, the shift simply continues. It learns your own movement levels game by game, and a single tap fixes any change it got wrong.

On the bench it shows what no stopwatch can: how fast your heart rate is coming back. It fits your recovery curve live, shows the drop after 30 and 60 seconds, and estimates when you are back at the heart rate you usually start a shift with. After the game you see every shift, every period, and whether your recovery got slower as the game went on — and over the weeks, whether your conditioning is improving.

WHAT IT DOES
- Automatic shift detection from the accelerometer and heart rate, with hysteresis so stoppages and standing up on the bench do not count as changes
- Live shift clock with a ring towards your target length, and one vibration when the shift reaches it (30–90 s or off)
- Bench clock with heart rate, drop since the peak, percentage recovered and an estimate of when you are ready again
- Recovery curve per bench rest: heart rate drop after 30 and 60 s and a recovery half-time from a fitted exponential curve
- Fatigue per period: how much slower you recover in the last period than in the first
- Periods (1–4) with intermissions, overtime, and a summary per period: shifts, ice time, average shift, recovery
- Tap or press START to switch by hand at any time, and undo the last change if the detection got it wrong
- Saves the game as a hockey activity in Garmin Connect, one lap per period, with on-ice time as a chart and shifts, ice time, average shift and recovery in the summary
- History of your last 30 games with shift charts, a trend of ice time and recovery over the last ten games
- Settings for minimum bench time, detection sensitivity, ice or inline rink, vibration, sound and backlight
- A glance with your last game: ice time, shifts and how long ago, five languages

WHAT IT NEEDS
- A watch with wrist heart rate (or a paired strap) for the recovery figures; detection works on movement alone
- Start the app at the puck drop; warm-up skating would otherwise count as shifts
- Detection learns from your first games; set it to calm or sensitive if it switches too late or too early
- Blueline is a training aid, not a medical device

Blueline - Ice hockey shifts and recovery

WAS ES BRAUCHT
