Athletica Workout Reserve in real-time on your Garmin device!

This data field is for cycling and running activities only.

By comparing against your Athletica performance profile, the Workout Reserve (WR) can estimate how closely you are performing to your maximum in real-time. A value of 100% means you are far away from your past best performance and that your performance capacity is therefore at maximum. At the beginning of every session, WR is set at 100% by default. Conversely, a value of 0% would indicate you have reached your past best performance. A negative WR value indicates that you exceeded your past best performance and you set a new personal record. Before the start of the next session, your Athletica profile will be updated and today’s record will become part of tomorrow’s profile. Internally, WR already knows whether you are reaching your maximum performance for longer (L) or shorter (S) effort durations. This information is provided only in ‘Advanced’ Display Mode with a cursor moving towards an ‘L’ or an ’S’, accordingly. For example, if you attempt a maximum sprint, you will notice that WR will be dropping and that the cursor will move towards ’S’. Conversely, during time-trials or prolonged HIIT sessions, you will notice that the WR will be dropping and that the cursor will move towards ’L’. 

Instructions for installing on your Garmin Device

1. Paired phone and Garmin device turned on.
2. Ensure Connect and Connect IQ installed (on phone) with Bluetooth and background permissions
3. Search for Athletica in Connect IQ
4. Accept the permissions and install Athletica WR
5. In one of your activity profiles, add Athletica WR to one of your existing (or new) data screens and save
6. When prompted (in Connect IQ on phone) sign into Athletica and authorize the data field. This redirects to your default browser (Garmin does not see your Athletica email or password), then back to Connect IQ with the authorization result.
7. Keep GPS and phone nearby and turned on for up to 15 mins for your profile to be downloaded the first time. Listen for the distinctive tone.
8. Go ride.  You don't need to carry your phone with you during an activity, for the data field to work.
9. The profile updates up to once every 10 hours (to conserve battery) if your phone and device are turned on and nearby. The update is much quicker than the initial profile download.

Settings

1. Basic shows your Workout Reserve percentage during your activity. Advanced also shows the Workout Reserve duration from short (left hand side) to long (right hand side)
2. Play a 5 note tone whenever a new profile is downloaded or do not play a tone. Best left with tones turned on. 

Privacy

The data field will store your Athletica user id (a number) and WR profile in your Garmin device’s persisted storage. It does not have access to (nor store) your Athletica email address or password or other personal details.
