HIIT Tracker

Description

**THIS APP IS UNOFFICIAL AND NOT SUPPORTED BY ORANGE THEORY FITNESS OR ANY OTHER STUDIO**

Donate to the developer: https://paypal.me/werkkrew

This Garmin Connect IQ App provides a display on your Garmin Device which closely matches the display seen on the screens in Orange Theory Fitness studios as well as other HIIT studios such as Fit32, Cyclebar, etc. It is intended to be used in-studio alongside any of the officially supported heart rate monitors and will not interfere with their operation. Devices equipped with internal HRM's can use this sensor as well but it is not as accurate as an external sensor. By default the app will record an activity of type Training but can be changed by the user in the settings menus. This activity and it's FIT data can be saved and sync'd with Garmin Connect just as any other fitness tracking app does.

This app is a great idea, but perhaps slightly inaccurate or not sensitive enough. If I start my workout on the tower or weights floor it just doesn’t match my heart rate at all (it stays in the grey when I’m definitely going all out on the row!). It isn’t until I jump on the treadmill that it starts matching what’s in the OTF screens and more acccurately tracking my HR. So often (depending on the workout) I’ll only have accurate data for half my session! Otherwise, great!

Not sure why, very happy with app while using my Forerunner 935...now using Fenix 5 plus and didn’t track my running distance. That was measured while using my 935...

My OTF band broke and I didn't want to buy a new one. This app works great! I had an OTF monitor on and the app running at the same time and they read about the same! All I have to do is change the activity name on my app when it saves which is way better than spending another 100 dollars on a new OTF monitor. Thank you!

Excellent app for measuring my HIIT workouts and gym class activities, the fault previous reviewers have mentioned regarding the activity title is easily addressed by going into the activity and editing the activity in the connect app. 10/10

Great app except it records the workout as treadmill running

You can change the type of workout it records as in the settings. Garmin doesn't support a workout type of HIIT or Interval Training. In the latest version I changed the workout type to default to "Training" with a sub-type of "Cardio" - again you can change this in the settings.

Same issue as the other. Fenix 5 records as running. please look for a fix. I would gladly pay for this app in a fully functional format. Keep up the good work and thank you for working on the bugs.

I like the idea of a HIIT tracker, for interval running of for crossfit-like workouts. When I use this app, it does seem to work during my workout, but it records it as a treadmill run on my phone :/ I have a fenix 5, and it seems from the other reviews, that i'm not the only one experiencing this problem.

It's not working on my Fenix 5. It works during the activity but it doesn't save the workout at the end

I used this app for the first time today in class and it is pretty stellar. Since they have changed the calculation my splat points have been crazy. The reading I got from HIIT Tracker seems to be more in line with the old calculation which I prefer. I know that no tracker is perfect but this is pretty close. On my wish list would be able to track the distance on the tread and rower. I have no idea how that would work but it would be sweet. Nice job with this app!

The issue is that as far as I am aware there is no easy way to switch between workout types from the perspective of the device mid-recording. The only way to record the different aspects of an OTF workout would be for me to code something in where you can press some buttons to change if you are doing treadmill/rowing/bike/floor - mid-workout. I felt like this would be cumbersome and distracting to most people so I opted to just have the workout get recorded as one type, which is user configurable. As such the specific rowing portion of the workout (for example) would just get recorded as whatever type you chose and would likely not be accurate.

Still doesn’t work on a Fenix 5. Saves as treadmill run instead.

When you say it does not work, what do you mean? As for recording as treadmill that was the previous default setting. I recently changed the default but you could always change what it saves as in the settings for the app, there are various options.

This is a very clean looking app, however there is just not enough customization available. As other users have mentioned, the time of day (TOD) would be very useful. The fact that there is no way to check the time without stopping the app and exiting completely is REALLY unfortunate. As a parent I need to be very conscious of the time...I usually workout before I take my kids to school. The timer is helpful, but the actual TOD would be nice too. It would also be nice if other data screens could be added similar to how the Garmin apps work.

Thanks to a pull request from a friendly GitHub user the time of day is now displayed in the main view of the app in the latest version.

This is the only app that actually works for a hiit workout that I've tried so far. On other apps, usually there is too much data displayed on the screen to be useful but not here. It is nice to glance down and see your effort %. This sums up how you are doing in one simple number. Sometimes I like to also see my heart rate, which is also there. I would like to be able to see the time of day on the face too, because I don't like to switch screens when I'm in a workout. The only other thing I think would be useful is if there was a simple drop down list in the screen that you could change activities as you go and it would track them as such. I would be willing to pay for that feature.

Thanks to a pull request from a friendly GitHub user the time of day is now displayed in the main view of the app in the latest version. I have considered investigating a way to change the workout tracking mid-session but I am not actively doing OTF anymore so I haven't really been putting any effort into this app. As for paying I have no idea how I would realistically monetize this app.

Many people have complained about issues on the Fenix 5. As I do not own the device the best I can do is run it in the simulator, where it seems to work fine.

Awesome app if you are working out at Orange Theory. Matches what you see on the OTF screen. Love the vibrations as you go from one heart rate zone to another. Well done.

Just downloaded to use during a class. I think it will be a great option to continue using during class. I wish there was a way for it to automatically identify and switch between the activities, treadmill, rowing, and weights. Also, I'm unsure if it was reading from the wrist hr monitor or my attached Garmin chest strap that the other activities pick up on. My heart rate want as accurate as what the OTF monitor was picking up or what I was getting from the Garmin chest strap using other activity trackers. I would also love to see the option come back to change the zones again since my zones definitely don't align with the standard OTF zones and I had to do a vO2 max test to get them accurate there anyway. 8 splat points with 1 in the red on OTF vs none from this app is quite the difference.

I LOVE this app. I used to be a solid OTF member. However upon finding CHUZE fitness they have team classes that are exactly like OTF minus the attitude and corporate policy. They even allow for adding your own HRM! It would be nice to add IQ data to the Garmin Connect Site under reporting...

This is the FIRST app for ViviActive I've installed tha ACTUALLY WORKS from install! I LOVE IT! Without reading app instructions (already understand HIIT W/O), I was able to start and use! This will be my GO TO app from now on! I've never left an app review. Simply uninstall ones that are lame in past! I will even consider making a donation as this app is awesom and creator deserves kudos and $!
