Gear Ratio

Description

With Gear Ratio you can see what the ratio of your selected gear is. This is done by doing some mathematics on cadence, speed and bike variables like wheel-size.

After installing don't forget to setup your bikes properties. I have made a little tutorial for it: http://tinyurl.com/hg397g9

Version history:

1.3 - Compatible with latest devices/SDK

1.2 - It's now possible to use a 12 speed pinion

Sometimes app cofuses between gears with 2 chainrings. Why don't choose both cog options? For example, 53-21 confuses with 39-15, it would be better to show 21-15 because I know what chainring I am using. Thank you.

I have been using this on my Garmin 820 for several months, and it have worked perfect!. Now i have upgrade to new Garmin 1030, and i cannot get it to work. The left numbers doesnt change at all, sometimes showing gears i don't have entered in the configuration. The right numbers showing some gears right, but mostly wrong. I contacted the developer a month ago, and no answer ...

Hey Berne, working on an update that should fix the settings problem. It will probably be a whole new DataField that combines Gears and Gear Ratio. Last I am trying to send the gear data to Garmin's connect web portal. Doing this all in my spare time so please bear with me!

I have been using this app for the past two seasons on my SRAM Etap 11 speed and its been super and trouble free. I am now updating my drivetrain to SRAM etap AXS 12 speed and getting my Garmin ready, I have entered the 12 gears as well as the 33x46 crank into the application. Will I have to add a new gear sensor under settings-sensors to see this? Thanks..... I would pay for your app as its that good

With 2 chainrings mix the gears. For example, when I am using 53-19, gears showed are 39-16. A possible solution would be if the numbers showed were only the 2 possible cog for both chainrings. For example, 14 - 17, if you are using high chainring (53 teeth), proper rear cog is 17 and if you are using low chainring (39), proper rear cog is 14. Thank you.

Could you do the app compatible for the Fenix 3? Thanks

This idea was in my mind for YEARS. Thanks for making it a reality. Works perfect! TIP: if you are one of those who changes wheels/cassettes/bikes, just put all ratios in the settings as if you have a 12 speed bike. It works for all ratios. Doesn't work for bikes that have different chainring sizes.

Great idea, thanks a lot! I have one suggestion to get rid of the confusion between chain rings. What if you computed the gear ratio for both rings and only display the RD gear? For instance, if you have a 34 and a 50, you would read 12:18. Which would mean 34/12 or 50/18. Since we generally know what ring we are using I think it would be all we need. Except for those riding with triple...

This app works very well. As other users there is only a little confusion between similar cadence gears such as 34/14 and 50/17.

Good job but....more bike profiles, please!!! (bdc, mtb) :-)

Great so far, easy setup. Any chance of multiple bike profiles? That would make it ideal, save a lot of time plugging in data before a ride.

Works like a charm! Just fantastic. Quick to respond and always right! The downside is that 50/17 and 34/13 or something seems to be the same gear. Creator of this app... can you do something about that? Like let the program know that if the previous gear for example was 34/14 that the next obviously will be 34/13 and not the 50/17.

Works very good in high or slow speeds. Please can u add DI2 informations. Then u always know if you use small or big chain ring and you need only to calculate the cog ring. Thanks a lot!

It's not bad, it kind of works, but does sometimes display gears that I don't have on the bike and haven't input into the settings.

My first attempt was using the generic wheel size and it wasn't matching up very well but then I remembered how to find the sensor details to find the automatic wheel size calculation and it worked nearly perfectly, the only issue was where gear ratios matched up between the chain rings and cassette as someone else said earlier. I also agree if you could add the option for different bike profiles that would make this even better.

Great App! Easy Setup & everything working fine! Thank you!! Maybe add the option to set up different Bikes via the Profiles

I have this App on one of my training screens (Edge 1000) and love it. For better accuracy I measured my rear wheel circumference on the road (at my normal tyre pressure) over a total of 5 wheel rotations then averaged it to calculate the correct wheel value. This process eliminated display hesitations with certain gears combinations for example ratios where the big and small chain rings like 50-25 and 34-17 are close or identical. The only request I have is whether the computing time could be faster when changing gears, perhaps one second or less. Great App and big thanks to the developer.

Best way to get accurate wheel size is to get it from Edge Speed sensor "Sensor details". Tire pressure changes wheel size. This works ok, but the problem seems to be, that there are same ratios with big and small chainring (like 50-25 and 34-17)

Config via Garmin Express or Garmin Connect not working. So the application does not work, it shows the wrong values. Configuring application generally do not work !

It works great on my 1x10 MTB, it's really great addon, the only thing I gaved it 4 star instead of 5 is that, it's a bit slow, refresh/calculations are like 1 or 2 per sec, it should be calculated more often, it takes like 2-3 secs from gear chaining to display gear change. So hope it can be done faster :p
