This is a simple data field that displays Energy Expenditure, a momentary measure of the rate at which you are burning calories. The values are in kcal per hour.

Note that this data field requires your device to support this (unsure if all do), and it requires a HRM as it is derived from your heart rate.

The data is provided via the Connect IQ API (v1.2 and later) and your device may support it even though it is not listed in the built-in list of fields available for display (this is the case with my FR235, for example).

In addition to displaying the instantaneous energy expenditure, the data field records it into the FIT file, along with averages for each lap and the whole session. This information should then be displayed on Garmin Connect after uploading your activity.
