Race Screen

Race Screen is a data field that displays the most relevant information for running a race or training. It also helps correct the difference between the GPS-measured distance and the actual race course distance: pressing the lap button when passing a course marker rounds the distance it displays and adjusts the average pace accordingly. If you set a race distance, it predicts your finish time.<...

I love it thanks a lot!!!

Used this for the first time yesterday in a 5k. It appeared to work really well. It takes a little getting used to hitting the Lap button at the mile markers, but that will come with use during the races. As others have stated, would it be possible to give us the option to calculate the Predicted Race Finish time based on average pace rather than current pace. It would be more useful information for me. Also what happens if you forget to turn off the Auto-lap feature? I had mine turned off and it worked fine. Just have to remember to turn Auto-lap back on when I go for a training run. If it makes any difference, I'm using a Fenix 5X. Thanks!

My go-to race screen ;) Worked flawless in all my races (10k, 21.1k, even the run part of my last triathlon worked fine)

I love this please never stop update i use every race thanks for all

Great! BUT: Include please an option to disable the cadence field to have heart rate bigger. Also more options to configure would be very useful. Thanks!

I am very disappointed with this app. After reading the review by DC Rainmaker I was excited to get this app and use it. This past weekend I ran the VT City Marathon. I was at mile 4.03 when there was a 4 mile marker on the course. I hit the lap button to align the mileage and it jumped right to 5 miles. I did not go back to 4 as I thought it was supposed to. I tried to clear the data by double tapping the lap button and it jumper to mile 6 and then mile 7. I continued to mess with this damn app and by the time I was done running the 26.2 miles it was on mile 43. Never once did it go backwards ... it always jumped ahead to the next mile. This would be an amazing app IF IT WORKED CORRECTLY.

Can you change the finish time predictor so it based an AVERAGE PACE rather than CURRENT PACE? This would be so much more useful. I'm not the first to bring this up. Developer, kindly reply.

Help the most recent version. But how and where do you set the distance so you can get predicted finish times?

You set the target distance in the app settings either from Garmin Express on your computer or from Garmin Connect Mobile on your phone. If you do it from Garmin Connect Mobile on your phone, tap on your device, then on Connect IQ Apps, Data Fields, Race Screen, Settings. If you do it from your computer, click on Manage Apps, then on the three dots next to Race Screen. To get a finish time prediction, set Race distance (metres) to a distance in meters. So for the marathon set to 42195, for a 10k to 10000. Then Save. While the setting needs to be specified in meters, Race Screen will still display the distance in the units set in your device, km or miles. If you wish, you can also set a target time in seconds. So, for a 3:30 target time, you would set Race target finish time (seconds) to 12600. Just convert your finish time to seconds and use that. All this will do is change the background color when running behind target. A splash screen will show briefly the target distance and target time when you first display race screen when you are about to start an activity.

Can the settings be configured on the watch or must it be done with Garmin Connect Mobile or some other remote means?

May 1, 2017

Can it be used for rowing

April 30, 2017

It works perfect! Two possible improvements: Finish time is a prediction based on current pace. It would be nice to have the option of changing it to a prediction based on average pace. It would also be nice to briefly have number of seconds ahead or below planed time whenever you press the lap bottom. /Torben

Hi! This data field is great but one odd thing I noticed yesterday is that HR value seems to be off. For example, I tried to run at 170 bpm all my workout yesterday and according to Race Screen value it displayed 170 bpm but when I switched at that moment to other HR screen its value was around 180. When I uploaded the workout on the Garmin Connect it displayed the average HR 180 which I believe is true one because I was unusually and incredibly exhausted after the workout. Could you please look into this? I will try to check it once more and compare to other data screens.

This race app is great. In particular, the functionality of calibrating the distance along the race. All data fields are well visible on my fenix 5. However, I cannot get the race time prediction to work even though I set a target. Any ideas?

I can't watch the app in the watch. But in garmin connect says it is installed. It is a 935

Great app - if we could customize fields to move them around or even delete some it would be even better. I could handle 4 fields - Timer, HR, Pace and Predicted. Don't really need AVG pace if I have predicted and cadence is as daft metric!

April 12, 2017

Include please option to disable the cadence field to have heart rate bigger. 

Perfect. Include please option to disable the cadence field to have heart rate bigger.

Fenix 5X: Perfect, exactly what I was looking for for my first race with the new watch tomorrow!

April 6, 2017

This looks really great, but while briefly testing this on my new fenix 5S this morning, the avg pace field seemed to be displayed in mins/km rather than mins/mi. Is this a bug? My watch is set to use miles, not kilometers. The pace-10 field DID display in mins/mi, but the avg pace field was in mins/km.

Recent pace and average pace are always displayed in the same units. The same function is used to convert recent speed and average speed to the correct pace units, and this uses the pace units (minutes per mile or minutes per kilometre) set in your watch. Perhaps you triggered a new lap. When you press the lap button, if the distance-correction feature is enabled, the currently displayed distance is rounded up or down to the nearest kilometre or mile. If it was rounded up, the average pace would have been adjusted accordingly, perhaps making you think it was in minutes per kilometre.

I cannot find this either when downloaded!! i have the fenix 5. looks fab but cannot locate. dave

April 2, 2017

It looks awesome. But I don't understand where to select it as run-app, once I have downloaded it and sync'ed it. ? anyone...

Race Screen is not a stand-alone app but a data field that can display information within any of the standard apps on your watch. To use Race Screen, configure a data screen in the relevant App on your device (for example the built-in Run app), choose 1 Field as the layout, then in Field 1 select Connect IQ Fields, then select Race Screen.
