This is a good widget for a quick look to check on my dog. I like that I was able to use it while running with my dog off lead. I was able to use this widget in conjunction with my run app on Garmin Fenix 5. In the field its great when my dog goes on point because its not always convenient to be grabbing for the handheld device. Unfortunately I had to delete it because it was draining my watch battery by constantly searching for the handheld signal when it was not in use. It needs an off option. 3 stars was for battery drain, otherwise would have been 5 stars.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't seen this issue on the newer watch models so this is good to know. When you say it drains the battery quickly, how much additional drain are you seeing when using the Dog Tracker field? If you want to be able to use it on some runs, but not on others, you could always create a duplicate activity profile for Run, with the addition of this data field. That way you have an easy way to use the data field when you want it, and not have it loaded when you don't. Give it a name like DogRun.

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to write this. Any chance the App could include the diatance units (yds/ft) to the dog. The alpha 100 switches units after 99ft to yards. I assume this is broadcast in the ANT+ data. Sometimes in tight cover its hard to see the dog at 15ft! Another minor ask would be the title of the data field would be the dog's name. Thanks! Pete

You're welcome. Glad you are finding it useful. The distance is always in yards or meters. I'm personally always annoyed when it switches to feet on the Alpha itself as I usually just glance at the number. I don't show the name on the field like I do in the app because memory is severely constrained in data fields. But I will add it to my list of things to look into.
