Spent quite a lot of time trying to get this to work on Edge 1040 solar with both a Garmin-HRM-Pro-Dual and also a Polar Verity Sense. Despite following the directions on the description page, the app refuses to connect to either HRM, using either Ant+ or BLE. No hint as to what is (or isn't) happening. Looked like it might be interesting, but sadly ended up just wasting time. Best of luck for the future.

How do I run this app on my new Epix Pro 2? I think the author should update the list of compatible watches. In my case Garmin Connect installed thei app to my watch, but I have no idea how to run it.

Done another test today after the update . Still useless . Alpha 1 remaind between 1 and 2 complete ride . in excel the blocks between 100-300 watts (x-as) and 1 and 2 Alpha Hrv (y-axis) are completely filled . Regression : 0,0001x + 1,4613. Hopefully this week another ramp up indoors . I saw my results of 2022.12.18 and then results were so promising

After update even less reliable . Today did a very easy Z2 ride . I had seven minutes were it read below 0.7 and even going to 0.52 on 235 watt (my FTP is 330 watt) This was 30 minutes in a ride with watt increase every 15 minutes . HR at that point at around 111 bpm (last weekend's race I had 183 as a max) . I'm 51 years old. This is absolutely not a good way to predict LT1 , let alone track progress of it .

It is a pity that in the current version you have removed the button that allows you to change "A1" to "rr/A1" and vice versa, as it was in version 0.9.91. Now only in the data field settings in "CIQ" can this be changed. Of course, AlhpaHRV is a world champion :)

Thanks for your support Artur. This button is still there, but not visible due to an abnormal behavior of the firmware for Edge devices. The button is active and it works if you know where it should be located. Anyway, I will upload a workaround today as v0.9.932

I don't have any chance to test it. But take into account that, even if alphaHRV will work with Polar Verity Sense, accurary of RR intervals provided by optical sensors are worse than those measured by chest strap sensors like Polar H10. Any way, if you already own this sensor, it will be easy you do some trials

Following up on my previous review, I replaced the TICKR with a Polar H10 and everything makes a lot more sense. I don't think the Wahoo unit is accurate enough to be used with this. Great data field, thank you!

Firstly, it does what it says on the tin. It works well as a field on my Edge 530 device. However, the values I'm getting seem to be of limited use. I suspect this is due to the Wahoo Tickr HRM that I'm using though. I have loaded the .fit file into Kubios post workout to verify them and as far as I can tell the data matches the field. It shows me working far harder than I probably am (0.5 when I could easily be having a chat). Requires further investigation, but I thought I'd post this up for other players.

Great development of α1HRV for the Garmin community! I am using BLE Polar10 HR sensor connection to my Garmin Edge and ant+ to the data field. Thanks and keep up the fantastic work. Works with Quatix7 + PolarH10. ANT+ for watch and BLE for the datafield. Also good to have more info (HR + speed) on the same screen! Could you add an option to include HR history (detected by the app) to the FIT file? Thanks and keep up this nice work!

Theory and/or implementation is not valid most useless data field I have tried. Calculates respiratory rate that is off by something like 80% The alpha1 value fluctuate without correlation with heart rate or power and can calculate alpha value of 0.1 during easy Z2 rides. My first test was when I did a ramp test and at that time it kind of worked but I guess that was because step size/time matched something in the calculations that this data field use..

Connects once every blue moon and only on ANT+ Even when it does the data provided seem to be random guesses. Will check back in a few weeks, for now it is a waste of time

The app is a nightmare on my garmin device . two person with polar H10 and app keeps switching between these 2 . Option to choose last HR (instead of closest) doesn't work . The software itself . Sometimes alpha1 creeps back up to 1 and higher although wattages increases . So for training purposes it is quit useless that way as you can't really dial in to steady number . Also if data is so variable how are you even gonna track improvement ? In this format not usefull

Tested on Garmin edge 530 and polar HR10 strap. Used BLE not ant+. Out for an hour and experienced considerable lag between effort and alpha 1 showing decrease from 0.75 to below 0.5. in some cases over 20 seconds. Effort was completed then numbers dropped. However, this looks like a really promising bit of software.

I am using a Garmin Edge 1030 with Garmin Dual HRM. I downloaded the app and updated my activity profile to display the Alpha HRV. Connects perfect and constantly shows values however the actual values are pretty dubious. On a 3 hour endurance ride the value was rarely above .50 which suggest I am anerobic. For reference my FTP is 295 and averaged 193 watts over 3 hours. I rode with a friend and maintained conversational pace throughout the ride so would have expected to be above .75. Unless there is a step I am missing or something or if the intended use is not for a long 3 hour ride.

Very useful information, not only for VT1 estimation but also to evaluate freshness before training, during W-Up for example. In some cases I face stability problems at the begining of the Alpha1 calculation ("Collecting Data"). Once Alpha 1 is displayed, only minos artifacts (less than 3%) whoed up from time to time. Setup: Polar H10 + Edge 530. Thanks for the great job.

real star rating pending actually getting connected to my Venu2Plus ... the best i can do is get an alpha hrv logo to display on a screen ... instructions are definitely unclear though i could also be part of the problem admittedly ... have tried both BLE and ANT+ ... using PolarH10 ... have tried 'contact developer' but have not heard back

Thank you for the excellent instructions and your app! I've been using it thanks to Bruce's blog for a while and can only say: works as intended in every way. (With my FR945 and my current Fenix7, both with a Polar H10.)

Why during using this app I'm not able to see HR for other data fields? Is it a bug?

Works great! But on my Edge 1030 I have a problem with the data field not starting, only the "IQ" icon is shown. I need to long-press the field and re-add it to get it to start every time the unit is started.

I used to target HR based off DFA a1 analysis from previous runs over the past week (with HR @ a1=0.75 varying ~10 bpm within those weeks). Now, I can target a1 of 0.75 directly, which changes inter-day and intra-run! Perhaps this is noise with respect to my true aerobic threshold, or perhaps AeT varies day to day and from the beginning to the end of a run. Regardless of intra-run fluctuations in AeT existing or not, it is a game changer to not have to analyze my recent data to know what HR to target. This app is in agreement with runalyze and kubios, so cheers on the data process. Areas for improvement: Reducing power consumption would be nice (Fenix 7S in my case) a1 is inherently a lagged indicator, though I think the app could do a better job of forecasting current alpha1. For example, taking the HR time-derivative seems to strongly predict a1 moves (positive dHR/dt over a 10 second window almost always means my alpha1 will come down, and the converse is true as well).
