This simple data field can be added to any of the sports apps (Walk, Hike etc.).  You can use it with paper maps when you want to get a rough indication of your current location and direction of travel.

The data field displays a six figure Ordnance Survey GB Grid Reference followed by 4 figure Eastings and Northings displays which include the compass direction of travel.  To add the field to an app see "Customizing the Data Screens" page in your device's user guide.

The data field has the option of three configurable display types:

1. Six or eight figure grid reference in the format XX eee nnn (e.g. SU 443 263). This display can not be hidden.
2. Four figure Eastings (the first numeric part of the grid ref) followed by four figure Northings (the second numeric part of the grid ref). Both eastings and northings are suffixed with the heading as a compass direction (e.g. N2638 (NE)). This display can be hidden if required.
3. The heading as a compass direction (e.g. N2638 (NE)). When the data field is first added this display is hidden, but it can be added via the configuration options described below.

If the GPS fix precision is not considered "Good" then a fourth screen is displayed showing the GPS precision and heading. For more information about the meaning of the GPS Accuracy see this forum post: https://forums.garmin.com/archive/index.php/t-167917.html

Precision is given as one of the following strings:
- Unknown - No location data is available
- Old Fix - The location is the last GPS Fix stored on the device. This should be treated with caution!
- Poor, or Usable -

You can configure the data field using the Garmin Connect Mobile app. (see screenshot). The configuration options are:

- Grid Ref Precision:
    Choose between a 6 figure or 8 figure Grid Ref display.
- Grid Ref Display Time:
    The duration (between 1 and 60 seconds) to display the Grid Ref display before cycling to another screen.
- Show Eastings/Northings screen?:
    Choose whether to include the Eastings/Northings display in the screen cycle.
- Eastings/Northings display time?
    The duration (between 1 and 30 seconds) to display each of the Eastings/Northings displays before cycling to another screen type.
- Show Heading screen?:
    Choose whether to include the Heading display in the screen cycle.
- Heading display time?:
    The duration (between 1 and 30 seconds) to display the Heading display before cycling to another screen type.

Note: The field is only intended to display GB grid references and so will only work on the UK. If you are outside the UK it will display an appropriate message.
