Good revision in the last version! I would ask: there's a way to enable/disable GLONASS mode?

That's based on what was last used in native apps (like running), and isn't something I can do from Connect IQ.

Great app. I have used it for more than one year on my va hr. Recently, I noticed that the lap function is not available. Not sure, if you removed it or it would not work on the device.

There is auto lap function that is off by default, and the lap key itself is used to mark waypoints.

Hike2 is my favourite app. It ha s only one defect, imho: It would be a good thing if - when we pause - we can have a summary scrolling screen and below (pushing "down" button) the three options: 1. Resume 2. Save 3. Resume Later like other native-preinstalled apps by Garmin. That would make complete Hike2 and allow to save more battery during longer breaks (like in the lunch break)

When you pause (the resume/dave/discard screen), you can press the back button, and see all the screens you can see when you aren't paused (with an indicator you are paused). Press start again brings back the menu, where you can resume. "resume later" isn't possible with Connect IQ applications.

I am not sure yet whether this app will accomplish what I want, which is to have a map of my route from start to finish that will allow me to backtrack along a path until I get back to my starting position. The reason I am unsure still is that following a path back to a way point is not super easy without a compass superimposed on the path showing me the direction to go. Also I am not sure what you mean by the field labeled "sun up". That sounds like sunrise, but it seems to me what you really mean is that once the sun is up, that is how much day light I have until sunset, since any other interpretation makes no sense because where I live sunrise is 7:38 am and sunset is 5:38, and the other fields state "sunrise in 5:25, sun up: 9:59"

Hello, I love this app, but lately it didn't record a 3h GPS track despite having fixed GPS in 2 occasions. It is a bit confusing as well to know if you resumed correctly after you paused, pushing the button on va3 should resume tracking but it didn't, had to chose resume on screen. I had some boot loops with my watch, so the bug with GPS track not being recorded may not be linked to the application however using walk native app did record correctly the end of my hike. A bit concerned about app reliability now, but will test again.

There is a bug in th 2.70 Firmware on the va3 that impacts all CIQ apps that use GPS. We just have to wait for a firmware update. Here's a thread about it:

Downloaded. Can't see how i change user setting...? I have a fenix 5s. Any advice?

There are a couple things you change on the watch itself -like white or black background. On the f5x, long press the up button to get a menu for those. The majority of settings you change with your phone or Garmin Express. Here's a simple guide to using app settings:

Works great on my vivoactive3 with a lot of useful info. However it consumes a lot of battery. What I usually see: - ~1% per h in watch mode (with activity tracking on), - ~10% per h in the native run mode (GPS), - ~20% per h with this app (Is it possible that some screen consumes more than others ? asking because I spent a lot of time using the compass or the track) Would love to have a ascension rate (m/min). Thanks for this good app.

The compass, the screens with graphs, and the "chart" screen do more when updatings. You may want to go back to something like the main screen when you're not looking at one of those screens.

A greet app. But how to quit/exit app on vivoactive 3?

Developer Reply
04 December 2017, jim_m_58

On a va3, "back" is a right swipe. That will exit the app before you are recoding of after you've saved/discarded the hike. while recording, it's also how you mark waypoints.

Love the functionality, but it eats the watch’s battery life. A 4 hour hike took up 90% of the battery charge.

what watch? I get a min of about 8hrs on vivoactives, and more on a Fenix. It should be very similar to something like the native running app in battery usage.

Works great on my Vivoactive 3. Keep up the great work.

Good app. Works well when hiking. Like being able to set waypoints and also see track.

14 July 2017 | Version 2.09.1

Hike 2 is a nice app! I use it on my Fenix 5X whenever i hike! Please enable it to display map just like what Garmin's build-in hike app does, at least.

I would if I could! CIQ apps can't access the actual maps on the f5x or Edge, Oregon, or Rino. I'd love to add this to the app if I could.

Not working on Vivoactice HR - just waiting on GPs

Developer Reply
09 July 2017, jim_m_58

Make sure you can get a GPS fix with something like the native run app. If not, try turning your device off and back on. Also, make sure you are in a location outside, as if you are in a building or shelter, it may cause problems with GPS. If you've not used GPS in a while, it can take 5+ minutes to get a fix.

02 July 2017 | Version 2.08b

always waiting for GPS signal

See the response above. It's something with your watch or your location and not Hike2 itself. Use contact developer on the right if you want additional help.

Definitely the best hiking app I have come across. The latest version is just amazing! Thanks so much!!!

06 February 2017 | Version 2.05a

Tried a few for hiking / walking this is by far the best I can tune in what i want or drop the othets. The breadcrumb is very important for hiking or biking as we are off the beaten path. I wish for a complete set of instructions as going to the forum is getting it in pieces. I thank the developer for a very useful app for my vivoactive HR

Most useful app I have on my watch. It's very accurate. Easy to use. Good information tracking.

Stuck on the "Waiting for GPS" screen. There seems to be a problem with accessing the GPS. VAHR v3.30 (GPS v3.00)

You likely can't get GPS in a standard app from that location, as I'm just telling the firmware to start GPS. Turning the watch off and both on should resolve both or change your location a bit.

I can't enter the menu. How do I do that? I have a Forerunner 735XT

Developer Reply

On a 735XT (and the 230 and 235), menu is a long press of the up button.

24 November 2016 | Version 2.03.3

I like it and it works great. Just wat's needed for a longer walk. Just I don't know how to upload a set of waypoints (turning points on a planned walk). Is there any detailed description (or I'm blind?)? An enhancement would be to integrate with uploaded tracks.

21 November 2016 | Version 2.03.3

Used this application in the lakes in the UK. Provides valuable and relevant information while out in the hills. Excellent app well done don't know where you find the tme

09 November 2016 | Version 2.03.3

This is a fantastic app! Would be near-perfect it it were possible to display coordinates in BNG format - any chance of adding that?

08 November 2016 | Version 2.03.3

It's great on my VAHR. However, despite what the compatibility list says, it does not show up on my Fenix 3 IQ Market, so I couldn't install it there. Perhaps instead of "Fenix chronos" it should say "Fenix 3" and "Fenix 3 HR", who knows...

Developer Reply
08 November 2016, jim_m_58

The fenix chronos (which is CIQ 2.x) is the only one in the fenix family that's supported. With the f3 and f3-hr (CIQ 1.3) there's not enough memory on them. The list of compatible devices is correct. Hike2 is only for CIQ 2.x devices.
