My Bike Radar Traffic

Beschreibung

See how many vehicles passed you in a ride. Plus upload your .FIT file after the ride to see exactly where each car passed you. The latest version doesn't require internet access. I am hoping to add an automatic sync feature at some point in the future, but for now you must manually upload your ride to mybiketraffic.com if you want to see the locations and speed data for where cars passed you. *NOTE* you must not only install this app, but ALSO add it as a data field in order for ride data to be recorded during your ride.

Neues

2.6.2 - Re-compile and re-upload as 2.6.1 wasn't showing up in the store correctly.</p><p>2.6.1 - Updated for new Garmin devices, including the Epix 2 and fenix 7 series and Rino 7 series devices.</p><p>2.6.0 - Updated for new Garmin devices plus removed Montana and Oregon series from list of compatible devices since those devices do not support the BikeRadar class needed by my app.</p><p>2.5.1 - Updated version to allow adding the new "last speed" field</p>

Thanks for the great app, have been using it since it came out on my 1030. Hoping there is a version for the 1040 as I've just upgraded!

Love this app and the data it provides. Any thoughts on support for Edge 1040 that's just come out?

Despite the limitations of the radar hardware and Garmin software, this is a really nicely done app. The speed is sometimes not detected by the radar correctly but this isn't the apps fault. I'd love if Garmin would make a more accurate light but we'd probably not be able to afford it (yet). The developer probably has hundreds of hours if not more into this. And keeping with the time honored tradition of complaining about free stuff, can we set the label font color to black instead of light grey when the background is white? Most people I know with the radar light run this app now. Cool stuff, thanks!

I was satisfied with this app on my Tactix Delta. But now i have Fenix 7X. It will be available for this model too? Thx

Soll laut Entwickler auf der Forerunner 745 funktionieren. Daten werden angezeigt, eine Auswertung über Mybike Traffic ist nicht möglich. Daher wertlos für mich.

Please email me your .FIT file from the ride(s) that are not appearing on mybiketraffic.com, and I will look into what might be causing the problem. One thing to note: you must install the app AND add it as one of the data fields on your Garmin for the radar data to be recorded during your ride. I have updated the description to indicate this more clearly. My email address is [email protected] - thank you.

Thanks Brian for your patient explanation of the IQ platform limitations for the now legacy Edge-1000 device. I eventually decided for a Venu Sq as a Pulse-Ox and HRM sensor that does support the current IQ version and so works with MyBikeTraffic and a Varia Radar following phone and Radar pairing, and MBT download. So not too steep a hill to climb with significantly better data from VenuSq than a HRM sensor alone. Once again, thanks for your evidence based approach to road safety, which I now share with local Enforcement people & stakeholders to demonstrate why just having some Highway Code improvement is not enough to change attitudes (UK). Ride Safe..

Thank you Paul. I'm hoping this is a small step towards collecting enough data to have traffic engineers and city planners make changes. I'm also hoping if it catches some publicity that it will draw attention to the "speeding" epidemic that I believe is sweeping the world. Everybody is driving faster and faster and it would be nice to have the data to prove that to the "speeding" deniers. Even if the data mostly gets ignored, perhaps it could influence even just one speed limit change on one road somewhere in the world or a road redesign somewhere that leads to one less cyclist (or pedestrian) getting run over and killed, then it will have been worth all the effort. I'm working on two new features right now that should make the app a bit easier to use ... the first is automatic synching to the mybiketraffic website through the Garmin Health API so that users don't have to manually upload if they want to see all the car locations and car history (will require authorization through Garmin). The second is a connection to Strava (will require separate authorization through Strava) that will automatically add the car count info to the description plus a link to the corresponding ride on the mybiketraffic website. Both of these features will be opt-in because the user will have to authorize both the Connect IQ app and the Strava web connection, so if users are not interested in either of those features, it will continue to function the same way for them.

The app works as intended. I don't use the website so I cannot comment on that. I did not find any documentation re: whether the reported speed matches the Garmin unit system (English/metric) or whether it is always mph. The only issues I've had with the app are more related to importing in WKO - WKO does not pick up the speed units in the speed data fields and it doesn't import the @Radar_Ranges or @Radar_Speed fields at all but I suspect that's a WKO problem not a problem with this app. WKO does not read array fields other than HRV at present.

Thank you for your review. Regarding the speeds, I coded up the app to display speeds using the same units that you have your Garmin device set to (e.g., metric). It should show a small MPH or KPH next to it the speed field on the screen, but if you are using a watch those might be hidden by the curvature of the watch. You might try changing the location of the data field on your display. Also, you can use the Garmin Connect IQ phone app or Garmin Express to change the settings for the app to choose whether you want to display relative or absolute speed, but you cannot change the units (metric vs imperial) displayed unless you change it through settings for your entire Garmin unit.

This is a great data field. I have been using it almost everyday since down loading it at version 1.0. It gets better and better, and the latest "last speed" is a really great feature. I have this on my main data screen for both my road and gravel cycling. The "mytraffic.com" web site is also very good to use. The only improvement would be if it could trigger a photon lazer at motor vehicles that come to close or are speeding.

Danke!

Cool app. I’m sure the information can be useful to route planning apps like Komoot to provide cyclists information about how busy a route is, and how dangerous (based on approach speed of cars)

1. the page has an incorrect data import link. However, the import via the Import submenu always returns a message that there is no radar data in the data file - no matter what file format you import. 2. application overloads Edge 530 - without the application my 50 km route eats 10% battery. After installing the app, the battery consumption increased to 14-15%. That is 4 less routes on a single charge. 3 I reported a problem with the site, with importing data - no response. If you don't give a damn about your users, then you get such reviews - simple. I didn't find any advantages of using this application - lack of possibility to import and display data on the website, excessive battery usage is a bit too high a price for having the number of cars that passed me - anyway, such information itself is useless.

Wow, it's amazing how somebody could write this for a completely free service being provided to the community. I am investigating the battery issue. Also, this is the first time I am hearing about the "incorrect data import link" and perhaps your increased battery usage is somehow related to your data files not showing radar data when imported. Please attach your .FIT file in a message to me. I use this on my Garmin 1030 with no noticeable decrease in battery life. Also, there is always going to be a trade-off between extra features on a device that consume CPU and battery life. What do you expect me to do about it?

Absolutely amazing app, a must-have if you are commuting, it really does work quite well. Can you make it work to display car speed when the bike is stopped at 0 Speed?

7. März 2021 | Version 2.2.1

Great idea !, Thanks Would it be possible to separate the monitored data into 3 independent fields in a future version? I mean, Vehicle count in one field, realative velocity into another field and absolute velocity in a 3rd field ? That way the users can display the fields in different screens, the fonts can be larger. One more thing, can you measure the distance from the vehicles? If so, can you change each circle that show on the screen representing a vehicle approaching the bike by the estimated distance to the bike ? This would be great in Edge units with larger screeens, specially 1030 and 1030+.

Works perfectly and gives more information than standard system. I find it very helpful to see the speed of the vehicle approaching you from behind.
