I'm a premium member on Training Peaks as well and can't get my STRUCTURED workouts to work on my 935. I haven't confirmed if it works with cycle and run but it definitely does not work on my structured swims. Other than that, the available watch faces along with the advanced run metrics (with tri-strap) are amazing.

Currently swim workouts are not supported through the app. We are working with Garmin to see how we can make this happen. We will keep you posted as we know more.

Seems like it's working well for Run and Bike (on my 1030 or fenix5) but I can't see the swim workouts (on my fenix5), is it not supported?

No issues at all with connecting with Trainingpeaks Workplan and uploading it to a screen on my Garmin 520. On the bike it runs well and accuratel...particularly like the countdown timer. However two issues prevent it from getting the four stars it deserves. 1. Most of my workouts used Cadence in some important way. Only Power and the countdown Time shows up on the Screen. I do not know how to add Cadence or whether it can even be done. 2. If I try and use one of my existing screens that has both Power and Cadence a "nasty" screen pops up when I am over or under the zone my workplan. I use the word nasty because it blocks out the entire screen so I cannot see any information on the screen while I am not "in the zone." It this info could be shown like the "you are in the zone" banner then you would get full marks from me. Am I missing something here???

Thank you for the feedback, we are happy to hear that the app is working for you! Once you are performing the workout you are actually in the native UI of the Garmin device. We will send this feedback to Garmin to consider.

"No structured workouts". Based on what others have stated here this app is really bad design. How I can transfer my workouts directly to garmin? It seems that TrainingPeaks sucks... :(

The app requires that the workout was created using the TrainingPeaks Workout Builder. The interval information is what the device uses to guide you through the workout. https://www.trainingpeaks.com/blog/introducing-trainingpeaks-workout-builder/ If you have any additional questions, please contact our Customer Success Team: https://help.trainingpeaks.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Can you add Vivoactive 3?

Udviklerens svar
17. november 2017, TrainingPeaksIQ

We hope to add support for the Vivoactive 3 early in Q1. The earlier Vivoactive devices did not support workouts, which is why the 3 was not automatically supported by our app. We will need a few beta testers, so contact our Customer Success Team so we have your info when we are ready. https://help.trainingpeaks.com/hc/en-us/requests/new .

We actually developed the app using an EDGE1000. That just happened to be the first device that supported the new CIQ features. If you submit a ticket here, we can get you up and running. I mean cycling: https://help.trainingpeaks.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

my coach on TP gives me workouts w/ a certain target, say heart rate/zone as you would expect. while this app transfers the daily workout onto the watch nicely (FR935), it completely screws up the target zones. as per customer support, it apparently cant use the HR zones which you specify in TP and transfer them as is to the watch, but rather takes a value in the middle of the zone and adds +/- 10% as the upper and lower limit. in my opinion, this makes the whole app entirely useless as i dont want any guess work w/ regard to the HR zones but have them transfered as per TP workout builder. consequently, i use Garmin connect to specify my target zones for workouts. same goes for power zones. TP apparently has no interest in changing this, which is why I will also not renew my account and stop using their platform entirely (other than checking what my coach wants me to do for which the basic plan is sufficient). that's a real pitty and as far as i am concerned, there is no good explanation for this bug other than sloppy programming.

We are updating our workout builder so that the exact ranges can be set for each step of the workout. These ranges will then be used in the Connect IQ app. We will keep you posted as these changes happen.

Ok so finally figured out how to have structured workouts launch. As long as the workout is not based on RPE it should pop up on your watch no problem. I would still only rate this as a 3 since a lot of TP workouts I have is based on RPE and now I would have to delete and reenter each one based on pace/hr etc.

The app is very picky! It works only with Plans made by the workout builder. Ok got it and bought one of this expensive plans. BUT: The plan of my choice was oriented on PRE (Rating of Perceived Exertion). And this doesn't work with the TrainingPeaks app. This is a waste of time and mony.

Tethered to phone obviously until they invent the SIM card watch. One comment regarding structured workouts. TrainingPeaks just lately introduced downloadable structured workouts for devices. This means some coaches may not have converted the text based workouts to actual TrainingPeaks structured workout data files. The way to tell is if you open your daily workout in your TP calendar and look at the structured workout section. If there is a 'build workout' in the section that looks like there should be data there, then there isn't a structured workout. This isn't a Garmin issue, but a coach or individual issue to build the workout. One extra headache prevention step is to ensure your Garmin device can sync with your phone. If it can't, then you won't be able to use this app either. I've had good experiences once the app was sync'd with my phone. Workouts download to the phone, the ranges displayed visually on the device is a great help to stay on target, audible cues are annoying enough to keep you in a range, but not so intrusive to turn the device into a discus throw. I'll have to read up if there's a way to change the data fields in order to incorporate cadence in the interval display.

Was working fine, pulling through the daily workout via IQ on my Edge 820. But last night, tried it for the first time in a few weeks - went into IQ, TrainingPeaks, and daily workout downloaded - then when I hit 'Ride', Garmin crashed and shut down. Tried it about 10 more times, different ways including 'Training', 'Workouts' (which only had this workout in the folder), and Garmin crashed every time. Gamin should be up to date firmware seeing as it auto updates. VERY frustrating, and completely useless if it ain't gonna work as supposed to....

If you get stuck at the trainingpeaks logo after downloading a workout, you need to delete some workouts and try again. At least that worked for me. Good luck!
