HRV CV (coefficient of variation) quantifies the fluctuation in daily HRV. It is calculated as the standard deviation (of daily HRV) divided by the average HRV and expressed as a percentage. While the average HRV reflects average vagal or parasympathetic activity, the HRV CV represents the amount of variation, such as the stress (decreases in HRV) and recovery (return to at or above baseline) response to training and lifestyle events. Athletes who are more fit tend to show less fluctuation in their daily HRV scores (i.e., a smaller HRV CV value). A higher HRV CV value generally suggests better recovery and a more resilient body, while lower scores may indicate the need for rest or adjustments to your training.  HRV CV will increase more due to alcohol consumption, reduced sleep and lower sleep consistency than HRV and resting heart rate.

Il CV (coefficiente di variazione) della HRV quantifica la fluttuazione della HRV giornaliera. Viene calcolato come la deviazione standard (della HRV giornaliera) divisa per la HRV media ed espressa in percentuale. Mentre la HRV media riflette l'attività vagale o parasimpatica media, il CV rappresenta l'entità della variazione, come la risposta allo stress (diminuzioni della HRV) e al recupero (ritorno al valore basale o superiore) in risposta all'allenamento e agli eventi legati allo stile di vita. Gli atleti più in forma tendono a mostrare meno fluttuazioni nei loro punteggi HRV giornalieri (ovvero, un valore CV HRV inferiore). Un valore di CV HRV più elevato suggerisce generalmente un recupero migliore e un corpo più resiliente, mentre punteggi più bassi possono indicare la necessità di riposo o di modifiche all'allenamento. Il CV HRV aumenterà maggiormente a causa del consumo di alcol, della riduzione del sonno e di una minore regolarità del sonno rispetto al CV HRV e alla frequenza cardiaca a riposo.

# Esempi di interpretazione
Caso: CV HRV aumentato, nessuna variazione o piccola diminuzione della HRV media
Indica un aumento dello stress fisiologico. Tipico durante nuove fasi di allenamento (nuovi stimoli di allenamento) o aumenti del carico di allenamento. Un possibile segnale precoce di affaticamento. Questo tende a verificarsi anche in situazioni di detraining.

Caso: CV HRV ridotto, diminuzione da moderata a significativa della HRV media
Indica un livello più elevato di stress fisiologico e generalmente la risposta meno favorevole negli atleti quando non si desidera un eccessivo sforzo intenzionale. È meglio non lasciare che questo persista per più di una settimana.

Caso: CV HRV ridotto, aumento della HRV media
Indica un adattamento positivo e un possibile miglioramento della forma fisica. Suggerisce che si sta gestendo l'allenamento molto bene. Tipico con carichi di allenamento ridotti o riduzione graduale. Tuttavia, in situazioni di volumi di allenamento di resistenza molto elevati, questa tendenza è probabilmente indicativa di iperattività parasimpatica e affaticamento.

Gli atleti d'élite avranno un CV HRV inferiore al 10%. Le persone che vivono un periodo di stress intenso (ad esempio, chi lavora su turni) avranno un CV HRV compreso tra il 30 e il 40%.
