A dress watch face with a seconds hand and a date window. Seven finishes, one
of them white.

TWO WATCHES IN ONE
Six finishes lay a cold metal on true black: rhodium, blued steel, antique
silver, titanium, graphite, blackened steel. The seventh turns the dial over,
black indices and hands on an opaline white ground.

The white dial is not the dark one with its colours swapped. Black on white
does not spread the way white on black does, so at equal thickness the
reversed dial always looks thin. Its indices and hands carry two thirds more
material, and they drop the shaded half, which reads as a smudge on a light
ground rather than as relief. That was measured on renders, not guessed.

DOUBLE LINE INDICES
Each hour is marked by two fine parallel bars. What makes the index is not the
metal but the gap between them. It is an art deco idea, and it has a practical
side: a straight bar lands on whole pixels at any screen size, where a pointed
index gets crushed. Twelve of them, doubled at noon, the one at three given
over to the date.

THREE HANDS
Faceted, tapering to a fine point, one half lit and one half in shadow. The
seconds hand shows only while the screen is awake, since a watch redraws once
a minute in sleep and a hand that jumped sixty seconds at a time is better
left out.

THE DATE, IN A REAL WINDOW
At three o'clock, a light disc seen through an opening, with a dark numeral on
it. The frame is not a hairline but four nested rectangles, because a single
line disappears at watch resolution and takes the numeral with it.

AN ALWAYS ON THAT STILL LOOKS LIKE THE WATCH FACE
Most watch faces collapse to two bare hands when the screen stays on. This one
keeps all twelve double line indices and the date. It lights three and a half
percent of the pixels, against the ten percent Garmin allows.

The whole dial shifts a few pixels every minute to protect the screen from
burn in, and does not return to the same place for forty nine minutes. Using
the same cycle on both axes would bring it back every seven, and a given pixel
would be lit seven times more often. That is the part that actually protects
the display, and two tests hold it.

The white finish falls back to true black in always on mode. An opaline ground
lights the whole panel, which the ten percent ceiling makes impossible. That
is deliberate, it is the only way to hold the ceiling, and the settings screen
says so.

ASKS NOTHING OF YOUR WATCH
No permissions. No sensors read. No phone connection required. It reads the
clock and the date, and nothing else.

The dial is drawn as geometry, not assembled from images. Only the name and
the date numeral come from a font. It stays sharp on every screen from 360 to
454 pixels, and nothing is upscaled.
