Name: RWECS – Racewalk shoe sensor workouts & metrics
Rating: 5 (1 reviews)
Author: DmitryBabenko

RWECS is the Garmin Connect IQ watch app for RWECS Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) running shoe sensors. Pair your left and right RWECS devices, control a workout from your wrist, and see live metrics while you run or walk. When you save an activity, RWECS can record custom developer fields so shoe metrics appear in Garmin Connect and in FIT exports for deeper analysis.

LEARN ABOUT RWECS HARDWARE & HOW TO GET CHIPS
RWECS (Race Walking Electronic Control System) devices are small BLE sensors worn on the shoe. Full specifications, LED behavior, charging, attachment, and how to preorder or purchase chips are on the official product page:

WHAT YOU NEED
• Compatible Garmin watch (see supported models below).
• RWECS BLE shoe sensors (see link above).
• Garmin Connect on your phone with the watch paired.
• Bluetooth enabled; keep the phone near the watch when pairing sensors and using phone-linked features.

HOW IT WORKS
• Pre-session: discover RWECS devices (names starting with RWECS), assign left and right, then start your session.
• During the workout: start, pause, resume, lap, stop; review multiple on-watch metric pages.
• Alerts: rolling LOC-style analysis can trigger alerts when thresholds are crossed (behavior depends on your tier and settings).
• After the workout: save or discard like a normal Garmin activity. With FIT contributions enabled, RWECS metrics are written into the saved activity for Connect and FIT tools.

FREE VS RWECS PRO
Free tier provides core workout use with default alert behavior and essential views. RWECS Pro (purchased and managed in the RWECS companion mobile app) adds features such as a customizable LOC alert threshold, run/walk activity type selection, richer on-watch metric views, and writing RWECS metrics into the saved activity so they show in Garmin Connect charts and details.

Pro requires the RWECS companion app on your phone and an active subscription there. On the watch, use Subscription → Sync with phone after setup. Setup and troubleshooting: https://rwecs.app/garmin-pro.html

PERMISSIONS (WHY THE APP USES THEM)
• Bluetooth Low Energy: Connects to RWECS shoe sensors during workouts.
• Communications: Exchanges subscription/entitlement status with the companion phone app when you initiate sync.
• Fit / Fit Contributor: Writes RWECS metrics into workout FIT records saved on your watch.
• Positioning: Uses location context for workout metrics/features supported by your watch.
• Sensor: Uses on-watch sensor input for in-workout interactions (including Force Tap gesture handling).
• UserProfile: Reads profile data (for example, heart-rate zones) to improve metric presentation on watch.

• Data handling: Sensor and profile data are used on-device to provide workout features and display metrics.
